Our faculty is made up of a group of musicians who are fully immersed inNYC’s music scene. On any given night in the city you can find at least a few of us playing out and many times playing together.
We are graduates of the New England Conservatory, Peabody, Manhattan School of Music and NYU, to name a few. We’ve studied music in the academy and we’ve learned it on the band stand playing alongside Roy Hargrove, Jeremy Pelt, Ron McClure, Jean-Michel Pilc, Stefon Harris, Scott Colley, Christian McBride and others.
We've taught four year olds their first lessons, prepped high school students for college auditions, and reacquainted octogenarians with the instruments of their youth. We’ve taught in grade schools, prep schools, boys and girls clubs, colleges, private homes and universities.
We teach our beginning students the fundamentals of rhythm, harmony and melody and we guide our more experienced players to master music as a language, as way of expressing themselves and communicating with others.
Our goal is to inspire and instill in each student a passion and a life long love of music.
"Will Armstrong is s superb musician and teacher. He's good-natured, fun and always inspiring. Will is a true innovator. I couldn't recommend him any higher.”
-Andrew Berke, Director of At Your Door Music, Wellesley, Ma.
“Julia looked forward to Will's piano lessons each week. Supportive, friendly, and always making the lessons fun, Julia's piano improved week to week through Will's non-pressured, relevant, lesson-plans. Equally comfortable with traditional books as creating lessons around Julia's playlist, Will laid the foundation for understanding not only piano but music. We wish Will were still in Boston.”
--Lisa Lebovitz, Mother of Julia, age 9
"Having Will as a teacher was a really fun and educational way to start off my learning to play piano. He would make pieces that seemed extremely boring or difficult easy and fun to play when the time came to practice. Will was my teacher for 2 years and when he left I was really wondering what I would do now that I didn't have him as a teacher. The lessons he gave I looked forward to every week, and some days I could even persuade him to give me a piece of pineapple my mom had given him for the duration of the lesson :)"
--Indiana, age 8
"Will was my daughter's first piano teacher. After a year, my wife and I decided take lessons as well. Although my wife has a musical background and my daughter has some innate skill, I have neither. Will was able to start from the ground up and teach me some music theory; basic skills and reading; and a few tunes for my (admittedly very limited) repertoire.
As an adult beginner, I can highly recommend Will, particularly if you are interested in jazz piano."
Saint Aufranc - Indiana's dad
"Will taught my daughter to play piano. He was a fun, enthusiastic and engaging teacher who could really connect with a first grader and make starting to learn an instrument a fun experience which was important to us. Will brought his love of jazz, funk and blues with him to every lesson and shared new music with my daughter while also using the traditional teaching materials. In our second year with Will he taught me and my husband which was a wonderful way to share learning an instrument within the family and made us appreciate our daughters progress and her challenges. From time to time we even fought over piano availability!. We would highly recommend Will to teach or improve your piano skills"
